I have been a journalist in South Africa for six years and I currently work for the Beeld (www.beeld.com), South Africa’s only daily Afrikaans-language newspaper. (Ok, so I’m a bit like the Panarotti’s advert, but not Italian with a dash of South African, rather, English with a dash of Afrikaans! – er… or is it the other way around?)
Having been working predominantly in a community newspaper background, I have my roots in grassroots journalism – I have a passion for the preservation of small media and a keen interest in getting the small media online.
Working at a daily has been a learning curve – exciting, challenging and fun. I’ve always loved writing and what better way than to get paid for it!
I cover the East Rand of Johannesburg for the Beeld (yes, I can like to cover the East Rand coz it are a kiff place!).
At the beginning of 2007 I joined Wits University’s mid-career honours in journalism programme and will be completing my B.A. Hons Journalism end 2008.
And this is how my blog began – it’s part of my online journalism studies!
